2) each end of the drive shaft is a ribbed rubber boot that covers a constant velocity joint (CV joint). The outer joint is the flexible coupling that allows the outer wheel to steer, and the Inner CV Joint allows the shaft to follow the up and down motions of the suspension as the vehicle travels down the road.
3) The boot is used to protect against road hazards, while grease keeps dirt and moisture out, it can work good in ozone or -40 Centigarde temperature or other causticity condition
